Shoreham Beach is a designated Local Nature Reserve supporting large areas of vegetated shingle and used by windsurfers, kitesurfers and walkers.
An extremely rare and fragile habitat with a very limited distribution in Great Britain. It is in close proximity to an RSPB reserve and is an important roosting area for birds. Additionally, at the eastern end of the beach is Shoreham Fort, a designated Scheduled Ancient Monument completed in 1857.
The Local Nature Reserve is home to approximately 90 species of plant, many of which come into bloom in late May/early June.
Shoreham-by-Sea beach is used by windsurfers, sailors and kite surfers, as well as being used by walkers. The Monarch’s Way long-distance footpath runs close to the beach. At low tide, a large expanse of wet sand and shingle is exposed.
Behind the beach are a couple of grassy areas, once of which has a children’s play area.
