Newick Cricket Club near Uckfield founded in 1884, has over 200 members with two senior teams playing league cricket on Saturdays, friendly games on Sundays and during the week, plus five Junior age group teams.
A highlight for cricket lovers everywhere is the annual match between the Newick’s 1st XI and Piers Morgan’s ‘Family’ – which always includes a few ringers such as Freddie Flintoff, Kevin Pietersen, Chris Gayle and Shane Warne. A couple of thousand spectators add to the atmosphere, where fans can mingle with the international stars.
Our junior section includes over 150 youngsters (including over 35 girls) aged between 5 and 16, coached by our own team of ECB L1 and L2 qualified coaches. Coaching for the youngsters takes place on Friday evenings from April to July. Parents are encouraged to come along and watch – and have a glass of something while watching! Senior nets take place on Thursday evenings during the season.
In 2019 we were re-awarded the ECB Clubmark, the accreditation scheme for cricket clubs. ECB Clubmark shows that a club is sustainable, well run and provides the right environment for its members. Clubmark accreditation also means the club is recognised as a safe, rewarding and fulfilling place for participants of all ages, as well as assuring parents and carers that they are choosing the right option for their young people.
We have two grounds, with the main one at the King George V Playing Fields in the village and the other the beautiful Temple Grove Cricket Ground in Heron’s Gyll.
Our Cricket Teas are renowned throughout Sussex, which is one reason why nearly all our Friendly games are at Home – by popular request! We have a great pavilion – with an excellent bar – and spectators are made very welcome.
We are always on the lookout for more players of all ages and abilities, coaches, scorers and umpires.
