Baluji Shrivastav OBE presents an uplifting programme of Sitar accompanied by Pandit Sanju Sahai on Tablas.
The second half of the evening features Baluji with Jazz Orient supported by local guest artists Andy Platt and Kate Hogg joining Sanju Sahai, James Welland and Linda Shanovitch. Presenting their unique celebration of melody, harmony and rhythm.
Their arrangements take full advantage of the improvisational nature of both cultures’ music, giving short shrift to neither. Traditional raags and taals form the basis for tonal and rhythmic exploration. Eastern and Western instrumental timbres mix well, never sounding contrived. Shrivastav and friends prove once again to be masters of world fusion.
