Chichester Marks Holocaust Memorial Day brings Sir Michael Morpurgo’s The Mozart Question to Chichester as part of their events programme commemorating Holocaust Memorial Day on 27 January.
The Mozart Question tells the story of Paolo Levi, a world-famous performer who developed his passion for music as a young child, and of his parents who were both musicians too. This powerful story of friendship and family, narrated by Michael Morpurgo and Alison Reid, directed by Simon Reade, is interwoven with music by Mozart, Vivaldi and Bach, performed by violinist Daniel Pioro and The Storyteller’s Ensemble.
Alongside this story, is that of his parents who were both musicians too – Jewish prisoners surviving, playing music in a concentration camp during the Second World War. Treated with utmost sensitivity for a family audience, The Mozart Question is a story of friendship and family, truth and secrets – interwoven by the power of culture and music.
Chichester Marks Holocaust Memorial Day aims to provide education and training regarding the Holocaust and other genocides to promote human rights, religious and racial harmony, and equality and diversity to children, young people and the general public. Their programme of events in West Sussex focused on Holocaust Memorial Day and other events throughout the year, including films, talks, and musical or theatrical performances in Chichester Cathedral, Chichester Festival Theatre and other venues.
