Shakespeare’s ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ at Arundel Castle in Arundel, this Open Air Theatre in the Earl’s Garden is part of the Arundel Festival.

‘Much Ado About Nothing’ is one of Shakespeare’s funniest plays. Claudio loves Hero, and Benedick hates Beatrice. This is just as well, because Hero loves Claudio and Beatrice hates Benedick. Everyone laughs when Don Pedro plays a trick on Benedick and Beatrice, letting each think that they are secretly loved by the other. But it is no laughing matter when Don John plays a trick on Claudio and Hero, deceiving Claudio into thinking that Hero is not faithful to him. Murderous rage is unleashed, and death can be the only solution… Or can it? Perhaps one last trick may resurrect the innocent dead, restore broken relationships – and even create an unlikely union of Benedick and Beatrice!

Illyria return to the castle to perform this classic play in their intimate style which takes the audience through a range of emotions, all seasoned with a sense of humour. The actors present in the traditional style of Elizabethan touring players, using only the power of the human voice. Audience numbers are managed to ensure everyone hears each delicious line. We provide seating for the performance (no picnics in seating area please).

Be aware that it can get chilly as the sun goes down, we suggest you bring a warm top.
If the forecast is for rain, please bring waterproof jackets. Umbrellas are not permitted during the performance due to views being obscured.

Only severe thunderstorms will stop the performance. Every effort will be made to re-start.

Performances are never cancelled or abandoned before the advertised starting time and then only in the event of bad weather. Please note that we cannot give refunds for cancellation or abandonment as a result of the weather. Tickets are non-refundable unless the event is cancelled by the organiser for reasons other than the weather.
