Hallowe'en Half Term at Weald & Downland Museum

Hallowe'en Half Term at Weald & Downland Museum near Chichester , special Halloween themed activities will be available all through the half-term week. Enjoy the great outdoors this autumn half term at the Museum, with fantastic Hallowe’en-themed family activities taking place from 11.00 am-3.00 pm from Monday 26 October – Friday 30 October. Children of all ages can channel their excitement and energy into a range of hands-on activities and outdoor trails with a Hallowe’en theme. Activities vary daily* and plan to include: pumpkin carving, face painting, spine-tingling stories, a game of conkers, play with green slime and an autumn hunt. Craft activities include clay leaf dish, scary paper bats and bubble monsters plus more make and take-home activities. Visiting children are encouraged to wear fancy dress for their visit and can pick a free sweet treat from our lucky dip. Activities run from 11.00 am – 3.00 pm and children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Activities vary from day-to-day. Around the Museum Between activities, enjoy the fresh air and see the sheep, heavy horses and the other traditional breed farm animals including oxen, chickens and geese. There are lovely woodland walks and children can explore our woodland play area (and meet Knucker the water dragon). The Museum’s historic buildings are fascinating places to explore, plus you can learn how food was prepared in the Tudor kitchen, see how flour is milled in the watermill, taste a piece of freshly baked bread from our bakehouse or even watch a butter making demonstration in our dairy! Why not buy some grain, from either the working mill or Museum shop, and feed the hungry ducks by the mill pond? Our waterside café will be open for breakfast, lunch and snacks, plus there are indoor and outdoor picnic areas. Dogs on leads are welcome and there is ample free parking. Please note that the Museum is a no-smoking site. Regular entry charges apply (free for annual members ) and the Museum will be open from 10.30 am to 4.00pm. Museum at Night at Weald & Downland Museum near Chichester , experience atmospheric guided walks with a ‘tales of the unexpected’ theme, showcasing the museum site in unexpected ways. On Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October 2020 we will open our doors from 6.45 pm for pre-booked visitors to experience our atmospheric Museum at Night guided walks with a theme of tales of the unexpected, showcasing our treasured site in unexpected ways… These enchanting walks offer a truly out of the ordinary experience – you will be guided by lamplight to different spaces around the Museum, to hear a series of short night-time stories in-keeping with this seasons theme: tales of the unexpected. Some will be amusing, some mysterious and some downright odd. Each story has a historical root, as truth is far stranger than fiction. At the end of the evening, participants are invited gather around an open fire for a calming spiced warm drink and biscuit. BOOKING INFORMATION Not for the under 16’s or the faint of heart. Tickets are £25 each and must be booked online in advance as places are strictly limited. PARTICIPANT INFORMATION Guests should arrive at 6.45 pm and meet at the Museum shop and ticket office for a prompt 7.00 pm start. As there will be several walks taking place at the same time, we must stick to our timetable. Walks will last approximately 2 hours. Please note that there is limited seating in the Museum’s historic houses and the evening will involve a fair amount of walking on uneven surfaces. Please wear suitable outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear, as some paths are uneven. Please note that dogs are not permitted at this event (with the exception of assistance dogs).
